I am the Academic Computing Coordinator at Ravenscroft School in Raleigh, North Carolina. My first 7 years here were spent as the Instructional Technology Specialist in Lower School. This is my second year as Academic Computing Coordinator. I am department chair for Instructional Technology and am also responsible for faculty technology training. My other major responsibility is as Staff Development co-coordinator.

I started my career as a year-round elementary school Spanish teacher, working a 12 month contract, and got interested in technology when I saw how it could help me manage the demands of my job. At one point, I had 900+ students-----1/4 of them were always tracked out---and I knew a computer could help me organize myself and create materials for use in class. At that time, we had "Technology Committees" in the schools that decided where computers went, and they decided I didn't need one---but I didn't give up. I went in early and stayed late to use a computer in the school lab. I took a leave of absence from my job to attend graduate school, and got my Master's in Technology in Education. That was 10 years ago. After a brief stay in South Carolina as a Director of Technology, I returned to Raleigh and spent my time developing a Lower School Instructional Technology curriculum and creating a flexibly scheduled computer lab, while training Lower School teachers to integrate technology in their classrooms.

As Academic Computing Coordinator, my role has expanded to help all faculty on our campus. We are a PK-12 school with about 150 faculty, 60 staff and over 1100 students. I am looking forward to helping my team learn about all the new technologies available to them and getting those tools implemente in their classrooms.
